I definitely think there is a switch of some kind - there are people out there who are looking to purchase from companies who they consider to be 'good'. Most of the companies who are looking to do good, cost a bit more. And a lot more people are willing to pay more. However, there will always be a percentage of consumers who are only looking to get a 'deal' and don't care at all what the company does in the name of being 'good.'

Love this article, Shama! And I love that you were able to summarize that very looooong discussion so succinctly!

I disagree with Todd: I am seeing this trend in consciously based business already. In some industries, it's actually the ONLY thing that works.

Hurray for offering value to the world in alignment with our Soul's purpose AND receiving the financial rewards!

Blessings,
Andrea

I have to chew on this for a while Shama. I want to believe what you are saying is true; I welcome it. It fits with my personal philosophy of life, but I have think about where I am seeing that in the business world. This idea may be so new that it isn't so readily seen yet.

Well said! I never thought of giving flips to the audience, that's quite brilliant... I've seen the same done with regular cameras at weddings, this is a neat take on it.

The twitter attendance list is a great idea as well-- I aggregated the list best I could during the event. I can see making a list (on paper, and on twitter), and putting the link to it on the paper... that way last minute attendees can be added, even after the paper has been closed off.

I'm of course a big fan of professional photography (with a watermark) to remember the event by. As you get to tag the people, which, when done well, can leave a sense of intrigue with all that see that you were tagged.

[...] If you have customers, particularly vocal customer, chances are that at some point your business will be reviewed online by a customer. The most popular review sites are Yelp, Google’s Local Business Center, Merchant Circle, Yahoo! Local Listings, CitySearch, and Insider Pages. Register or claim your company profile, post a photo or logo, add your address and contact information, and sign up for review alerts. Additional information about this topic can be found on “The Marketing Zen Group’s” post.
Great post! I went to the Bing! SEO meetup at Central 214 last Wednesday and was really impressed with the transparency that Duane demonstrated during the discussion. The Bing! team didn't just present features at us, but rather opened the door to discuss problems with the search engine and even invited and recorded advice from the attendees on how to improve. Bravo, Bing!

Great article, Shama! My daughter is only four, so I haven't run into this topic yet, personally, but it sure got me thinking about the implications of social media beyond my own business! Thanks!
